Syria: A woman's view of the world's most brutal war | Waad al-Kateab | For Sama

For Sama has won majors award since its first screening at SXSW in the US earlier this year - most recently winning best Feature Documentary at Cannes last week. It is an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war. An award-winning documentary telling the story of one woman’s journey through love, motherhood, war and survival during five years of the Syrian conflict. Directed by Emmy award-winning filmmakers Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts, the documentary chronicles the experiences of 26-year-old Syrian filmmaker al-Kateab — who filmed her life in the rebel-held city of Aleppo over five years. The film has received standing ovations and critical accolades. The Times film critic said: "There simply hasn’t been a film like this before." For Sama premieres at the Sheffield Doc Festival on Saturday 8th June. It will be released in theatres in the UK and broadcast on Channel 4 in the autumn.
