I fell in love with this horse and he is now staying longer at our barn. He came to me as a difficult horse to ride. I took him through the 10 steps I take all the horse I train and that I teach on my course. I was told he was nervous and reared. I started training using positive reinforcement and because I was working on how he felt rather than what he did, he never put a foot wrong. How ever I didn't know he had a history of being scared of the trailer until it turned up and this was a how I helped him. I worked with him for 35 mins on the first day and about 17 mins on the secoond. I hope you think he is as magnificent as I do I do use pressure and release whilst training but try and introduce it to a relaxed horse and reward them so the pressure has a positive history. I want my horses to go into the world of humans with a robust understanding of how we want to handle them and also when they are fearful the pressure we might have to put on them will have a positive result. For instance riding on a road and a vehicle frightens the horse we need to restrict the behaviour that might be a spook, spin or shoot off. We need to control that so there isn't an accident but the horse can be put straight back in to a neutral and find calm.
