9 November 2021 - In this Sustainability Inquiry, the Founder and Chair of Zarawi Trust visits his childhood rural home where he has an ongoing goats project to get some inspiration as we embark on a community goats enterprise at Zarawi which seeks to improve rural goat genetics by introducing Boer, Kalahari Red and many other genes currently exotic to the rural but crucial for specialized production and industrialization of the goat value chain. In his words; "A visual diary for your enjoyment and reflection When I grew up with my grandfather in rural Rusape, I never wanted for books, nor school fees and when my Weinbrenner or Sandaks had worn out (GenZ and the rest are gonna need to google these), I knew I was sorted when he would call me to the goat pen and tell me the names of the goats that were not going to the pastures that day. That is where my appreciation of the value of agriculture for rural development comes from. Once a child of the rural, always a child of the rural. But dare I say that the rural must transform and those with ideas to enterprise must be incentivized to redefine the rural through transformative ideas, innovations and enterprises. I look forward to a day when all youth passionate about agriculture and working hard to transform communities through it (including you agricultural enthusiast) will never want for anything and will actually be asking the Ministry of Agriculture and many other high offices of the government to slow down on giving us resources towards transformative rural development with agriculture at the center. I look forward to a time when we are overwhelmed and not underwhelmed by support. Then and only then, we can really embark on an agriculture that does not leave anyone behind. PS: Still a landless farmer"
