This Rodgers organ was replaced mainly because of constant service issues. A new Allen has been installed, and the Church no longer has to worry about service issues and the task of finding someone to reliably repair their organ. Sadly, many digital organs built today are of such shoddy construction that they don't last more than 15 years. Most well-constructed pipe organ consoles (like Allen Organ consoles) should last a lifetime. To be fair, most people don't throw organs off the back of a truck, but what you see here should be eye-opening and provides insight of how an organ might look and sound good, but doesn't hold up over time. The truth is now and again we thrown Allen organs off the back of our truck and they just bounce - testimony of how a rock-solid constructed console should be built. In the truest sense, this is entropy displayed - things break down, rust, fall apart or otherwise stop working, that's part of life. Most Churches however after spending $40K to $150K should expect their investment to last 40 to 50 years, and expect service and parts support during its lifetime. Instruments like this are worthy of the final ride in a dumpster. The important thing to remember is that the solid console construction of Allens gives us a 'window' into how they think, their philosophy and how they design the parts inside that are out of view. Allens are world-class instruments - built for the long haul. It's in their DNA. Stay tuned for a video of an Allen organ throw-out in the near future. http://www.grafton-organ.com -- 1-877-GRAFTON
