Mizen Head is Ireland’s most southwesterly point, located in Co. Cork. It’s a must-see for anyone visiting the country and extra special getting there on a bike. We followed a loop planned by David Flanagan in his book “Cycling in Ireland”, starting in Schull, the largest village on the Mizen Peninsula. Thankfully the roads were quieter on the 2nd leg, on the way back from the Mizen Head visitor centre. Overall we clocked up 71.41 km with 1,056 m of elevation gain. 00:00 Intro 00:17 Schull 00:37 Route animation 00:51 Fastnet Lighthouse 01:13 Altar Wedge Tomb 01:27 Goleen 01:43 Barley Cove Beach 01:52 Mizen Head Cliffs 02:11 Mizen Signal Station 02:43 Knockmadree 03:03 Schull Gear used: The trip was also a test to figure out how to carry our camera-gear for longer trips. Specifically we were testing aeroe’s Quick Mount Pods, a hard-shell waterproof storage solution, with a capacity of 11L each. aeroe is a New Zealand based company that makes award-winning bikepacking gear. We’ve been using their system for a while and the Quick Mount Pods are the latest addition to our set-up. Learn more about aeroe here: https://aeroe.com/ Thank you for watching!
