John Clayton Mayer (Bridgeport, Connecticut, October 16, 1977) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who lives in Montana. After dropping out of Berklee College of Music, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1997, where he further developed his talent and began to make a name for himself. His first albums Room for Squares and Heavier Things sold well. In 2003, he won the Grammy Award for "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance" for "Your Body Is a Wonderland". Mayer started his career mainly playing acoustic rock, but gradually moved to the blues genre. In 2005, he played with blues artists such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton. His album Continuum, released in October 2006, is the best example of his love for blues. At the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in 2007, Mayer won the award for "Best Pop Vocal Album" for Continuum and "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance" for Waiting on the World to Change. In addition to singing, Mayer's career has expanded to stand-up comedy, design and writing. He has written several pieces for American magazines such as Esquire.
