We are proud to have very recently made our 2021 Annual Africa-Wide Non-Executive Directors’ Survey results available – results which unequivocally point to three distinct areas that boards should be focusing on to increase EBITDA. From the 351 responses representing 246 companies in 19 African countries, we are able to share the following: 68 percent of the companies with at least one female board member report that the company’s EBITDA increased compared to the previous year. 71 percent of the companies with more than one ethnicity represented on the board report that the company’s EBITDA increased compared to the previous year. 77 percent of businesses reporting that their board’s impact on the business “could be more effective” had either never conducted a formal board evaluation, or had done so less than once per year. Furthermore, 58 percent of business who report a decreased EBITDA, report never conducting board evaluations.
