Role of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in Diagnosing and Classifying Mullerian Duct Anomalies: A Case Series Layman's Abstract In women, the reproductive system develops from a pair of structures called the Mullerian ducts, which form the fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and upper vagina. When these ducts don’t develop properly, it can lead to conditions called Mullerian duct anomalies (MDAs). MDAs can cause a variety of problems, including difficulty getting pregnant, repeated miscarriages, growth issues for the baby, abnormal baby positions, early labor, and complications like retained placenta. This study looks at 17 women with MDAs, each experiencing a range of symptoms like infertility, miscarriage, and preterm birth. The study highlights the importance of correctly diagnosing MDAs, which requires using advanced imaging techniques like MRI in addition to ultrasounds. MRI helps doctors understand the specific type of MDA, which is key to choosing the right treatment. The study concludes that MRI is crucial for accurately diagnosing MDAs, which helps doctors plan the best treatments. For many women with MDAs, surgery can help them get pregnant, but not in every case. Correctly identifying the condition with MRI can prevent unnecessary surgeries and increase the chances of a successful pregnancy.
