At Bishop Williamson’s 25th Anniversary Banquet, Father Joseph Pfeiffer delivers a warning the Neo-SSPX cannot hide: the Society of St. Pius X has been structurally compromised. The 2008–2012 correspondence, ultimatums, and doctrinal concessions reveal a pattern of negotiation, ambiguity, and betrayal of Archbishop Lefebvre’s mission. Father Pfeiffer emphasizes that what truly survives is not the Society, but the Faith itself—and the faithful must recognize the danger before it’s too late. Meanwhile, the so-called “gifts” from Rome—jurisdictional recognitions, tribunals, ordinations without suspensions—remain embedded in daily Neo-SSPX life. This is continuity, not correction. The doctrinal line adopted in 2012 still governs: Submitted to Rome on April 15, 2012 Codified in the July 14, 2012 General Chapter This theology holds that: Vatican II is merely tainted with error, not a rupture The New Mass was legitimately promulgated Vatican II can be interpreted in the light of Tradition The 1983 Code of Canon Law is accepted without distinction This doctrinal line has never been retracted. In December 2008, Bishop Bernard Fellay sent a letter to Cardinal Hoyos. Two versions exist: Version #1 (private): “We accept and make our own all the councils up to the Second Vatican Council about which we express some reservations.” Version #2 (public): “We accept and make our own all the councils up to the First Vatican Council. Yet we can but express reservations concerning the Second Vatican Council, which intended to be a council ‘different from the others.’” No formal retraction or clarification of the first version was ever issued. As Olivier Rioult documents in The Impossible Reconciliation, this sequence reveals Bishop Fellay’s diplomatic maneuvering to normalize with Rome while creating ambiguity for the faithful.
