#dodgeball #curveball #foam practice slowly and carefully. This is a very old video I am making public now. It's not perfect, but it has worked for many players Remember in the movie The Karate Kid, when Miyagi speeds up Daniel's training by making him practice something he already knew how to do, like sanding, waxing and painting? A shockingly similar thing can be done to help speed up your journey to throwing a ball that has movement. In my case, it is best used with larger foam balls, such as the 8.25" balls. I call it the Paint Brush Method. What is the Paint Brush Method? Imagine dipping a house painter's paint brush in red paint. Only enough so that it is not dripping everywhere. Imagine you are standing 6 feet away from a painter's canvas on an easel. Now, imagine you are asked to splatter the paint on to the canvas from the top right corner to the bottom left (reversed if you are a lefty). How would your arm and wrist have to move in order to allow the paint to fly off the brush tip, through the air, on to the canvas before you? The line of splattered paint on the canvas is your calibration. That line represents inertia, and it also represents the direction the ball can spin if you do it correctly with this ball. The ball will spin in the same direction as the line of paint from top to bottom. So, the better you can visualize the paint leaving a perfect thick streak of splatter, and the longer that streak of splatter is, the more and more that ball will curve. The longer the streak you imagine, the more the ball can potentially curve. The very last throw I do in this video I imagine the paint splattering at the top right corner of the back of the gym, and the bottom left corner of the back of the gym. Picturing a curveball can be a lot more difficult for someone who has no idea how to throw one. But the paint can be pictures, and that is the bridge. This is not the same way that baseball players throw a curve ball, but because we can grip a foam ball more firmly, there are more options available.
