The Eagles Nest, or Kehlsteinhaus as its known locally, was the supposed mountain retreat of a certain German Chancellor in the 1940s. Nowadays it's a lovely restaurant with fantastic views, and well worth a visit if you're in the area. The website will have you think you need to book a tour to visit, but in reality all you need to do is buy a bus ticket on the day to go up. It's technically free, as you can always take the three hour hike up instead if you don't fancy paying the bus fare!
