Various of models during fashion show STORYLINE: SOFIA LOREN ATTENDS DOLCE AND GABBANA FASHION SHOW IN NAPLES Italian fashion house Dolce and Gabbana showcased its Alta Moda collection for Fall-Winter 2016 on Friday (8 JULY 2016), with a glamorous fashion show in the evocative alleyways of Naples. Models sauntered along the streets of the southern Italian city as locals spilled out of cafes and hung over balconies to watch and snap photographs of long-time Dolce and Gabbana muse Sophia Loren. The collection was dedicated to the film actress, who was given honorary citizenship of Naples on Saturday (9 JULY 2016). Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who usually draw inspiration for their creations from Dolce's native Sicily, set their show in a piazza in front of the Chiesa di San Gregorio Armeno in the port city. Guests sat on velvet chairs for the event, which was held a stone's throw from the street named after the church, famous for its row upon row of artisan studios which make world-famous nativity scenes. Mixing the sacred with the profane, the catwalk set off from the San Paolo Basilica and showcased an ironic, yet elegant, collection featuring amphora skirts, frills, dresses adorned with embroidery and stitched with words, eclectic prints and colors inspired by a series of themes from religion to football. And in homage to Loren, there was even a bodice with the Miss Elegance sash won by the star at the 1950 Miss Italy beauty contest.
