Various shots of people smoking marijuana STORYLINE: People across Seattle marked the unofficial stoner holiday of 4/20 on Monday amid a haze of marijuana smoke, cheers and coughing. Washington state legalized recreational use of marijuana in 2012. At an event hosted by the marijuana advocacy group Hempfest, dozens of people gathered to smoke oversized joints and blunts at 4:20 p.m. Monday. Visiting from New York, Sean Dunn says he marks the 4/20 holiday by smoking and remembering people who have been imprisoned for consuming a plant. "For me, today is about is not only about celebrating but to honoring the people who can't be here. People who are locked up for consuming a plant," he said. Marijuana users in Seattle have previously marked 4/20 in public gatherings, but smoker Marques Cameron says the crowds are a bit different since pot was legalized, adding that now people who were apprehensive about being seen in public now go out. "4/20, actually it does feel a little different. You can tell theres a little bit different dynamic to it , a little different audience in the crowd," he said.
