Since the reopening of the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd in 2016, the Lion City Brass Band has filled its hallowed walls with the joyous sounds of Christmas carols every year. As a live performance was not possible this year, the Lion City Brass Band, the Cathedral Choir of Saint Gregory the Great, and the Cathedral Children's Choir worked together to bring you “Hark The Herald Angels Sing”, a carol sung by millions throughout the world during this very special season. Hark the Herald Angels Sing Original text by Charles Wesley, 1739 Melody "Festgesang" by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn Arranged by the late Sir David Willcocks, 1961 Performed by: Lion City Brass Band www.lioncitybrass.com Cathedral Choir of Saint Gregory the Great Cathedral Children’s Choir www.cathedralchoir.sg One of the Great Four Anglican Hymns, "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" is most commonly sung to Mendelssohn's tune, with a soprano descant and a last verse reharmonisation in verse three by Sir David Willcocks. For many years, this featured as the recessional hymn of the annual Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at King's College Chapel, Cambridge. Text: Hark! The herald-angels sing "Glory to the newborn king; Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled" Joyful all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies With the angelic host proclaim "Christ is born in Bethlehem" Hark! The herald-angels sing "Glory to the new-born king" Hail the Heaven-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Son of Righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, Risen with healing in His wings; Mild He lays His glory by Born that man no more may die Born to raise the sons of earth Born to give them second birth Hark! The herald angels sing "Glory to the new-born king" Video production by: Lion City Brass Band N.B.
