Beta waves are high-frequency, low-amplitude brain waves that are commonly observed in an awaken state. They are involved in conscious thought and logical thinking, and tend to have a stimulating effect. Having the right amount of beta waves allows us to focus. Prominence of this wave causes anxiety, high arousal, an inability to relax, and stress, whereas its suppression can lead to ADHD, daydreaming, depression, and poor cognition. In optimal conditions beta waves help with conscious focus, memory, and problem solving. Mid-range beta waves (15–20 Hz): known as “beta two” waves and associated with increases in energy, anxiety, and performance. ❀ ❀ ❀ “As above, so below, as within, so without, as the Universe, so the Soul…” ❀ ❀ ❀ Simple meditation for beginners 1.) Sit or lie comfortably. We may even want to invest in a meditation chair or cushion. 2.) Close our eyes... 3.) Make no effort to control the breath; simply breathe naturally. 4.) Focus our attention on the breath and on how the body moves with each inhalation and exhalation. ❀ ❀ ❀ The 5-5-5-5 Box breathing Step 1: Breathe in counting to five slowly. Feel the air enter our lungs. Step 2: Hold our breath for 5 seconds. Try to avoid inhaling or exhaling for 5 seconds. Step 3: Slowly exhale through our mouth for 5 seconds.
