WBBM Channel 2 special on West Town's Summer of 1976 Arson Fires problem occurring in the Ukrainian Village (Thomas & Oakley Blvd), Wicker Park (Ellen & Marion Ct), and East Village ( Thomas & Wood St) neighborhoods. Division Street Latin Kings member Albert Guzman gives a brief interview on his role occasionally setting fires to homes for money given by landlords who are looking to collect an insurance payout. “This area has been hit by over 600 fires in the past two years, and the residents feel that these fires are more than just coincidence.” Rev. John Larson and Father John Hillenbrand discuss the probability that buildings in the neighborhood have been burned down for insurance money or other financial motives. WBBM-Channel 2 reporter Bill Kurtis conducts investigative reports of the about a fatal fire on Thomas St. & Oakley Blvd. that killed 7 people, and a few others such as the Marion Ct. block in Wicker Park and Lister Ave in Bucktown.
