Former prime minister John Howard says suggestions the Liberal Party should embrace “Labor-lite” policies is the “last thing” they should do. Calls have been made by former Liberals like Trent Zimmerman that the party needs to change their approach to climate change to win back seats lost to the teals and the Labor Party at the 2022 federal election. “If you have strong policies on the economy, on national security, on family issues, you win the public back, and you choose good quality candidates,” Mr Howard told Sky News host Chris Kenny. “And when you’ve chosen someone, get behind them, whether they’re a man or woman or dripping wet or bone dry. “You don’t win anything back by embracing the other person’s policy. “The last thing the Liberal Party should try and do is be Labor-lite.”
