First impression of assembling and using the Takacat 300 LX. Spoiler Alert: It is easy to assemble on our roof rack, stable on the water and the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus short shaft electric outboard provides portable, peppy power. A key lesson is to launch the Takacat from the roof rack down the starboard side, rather than attempting to struggle to the stern to launch. Without the motor mounted, loading and unloading up and down the side is easy for Alicia and me. Mounting the ePropulsion in the water is simple. We planned to inflate and assemble at the dock before departing, but were running late to get on the water before sunset. We pivoted and loaded the inflatable catamaran (in its two bags) with the ePropulsion on Sweetest Thing. Inflating and assembling the Takacat on our roof rack is fairly straight forward, with the dinghy's stern to our bow. Having two people allowed one to assemble and one to track the five parts necessary for assembly (two transom bars, two wood motor mounts and a through bolt). The only step of assembly not completed on the roof rack was final inflation of the floor panel. After the Takacat was in the water, we walked on the floor to secure in place and use the hand pump on the dinghy for final inflation to 10 psi. After researching portable dinghies, we chose the Takacat 300 LX (@airyacht) because it provides a compelling combination of size ( 9'10" / 3 m), weight (64 lbs / 29 kg), carrying capacity (4 people and 809 lbs / 367kg) and portability (stores in two carry bags). And, we like the option of a colors, choosing red. The two carry bags fit in the lazaret of the Sweetest Thing. The next larger size Takacat, the Takacat 340LX, at 11'2" / 3.4m, would be tight but doable to stow on the roof rack. The Takacat 300 LX should fit on the roof rack of a Jeanneau Merry Fisher / NC 895, however, clearing the antenna and light could be tight, so measure it if considering. The Takacat site is here to compare models: https://www.takacat.com Our Takacat is paired with an ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus (short shaft) (@EpropulsionHK) outboard because of its weight (44 lbs / 20 kg for both the engine and battery, which come apart) and the desire to avoid an additional gas can in our limited storage space on board. We currently store the engine in the box when not in use to protect the plastic prop. While the engine is light, it is bulky in the box and does not fit in the lazaret on board when not in use. We plan to try the carry bags, to cut down storage volume, and hope to stow the engine in the lazaret when the Takacat is inflated on the roof rack. EPropulsion site: https://www.epropulsion.com We are preparing for trips to the Bahamas from Florida and sought a dinghy light enough for my wife and me to load and unload, without modifications to our boat, large enough for four people and portable enough to stow away when not in use on Sweetest Thing, our Jeanneau Merry Fisher / NC 1095. The Takacat meets all these needs. We look forward to perfecting assembly and testing the range and speed. #epropulsionspirit #takacat300lxreview #takacatinflatableboat 00:00 Introduction 00:31 Takacat stowed 01:07 Planning for Assembly 01:52 Inflation on Roof Rack 02:48 Assembly on Roof Rack 04:32 First Dinghy Launch 05:13 Spirit 1.0 Plus Mounting 05:57 First Impression Takacat and ePropulsion Thank you to New Lands for the music: New Lands bylalex-Productions | https://onsound.eu/ Music promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.com Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...
