John had a very rare cancer - Extramammary Paget Disease EMPD - so rare that in the US it is seen in only an average of 74 men a year as it usually is found in women in 67% of all cases, mostly in the vulva followed by the nipple. In men it is found in the groin and penis and has an average survival rate of 5 years but can last beyond 10 years. Owing to the rarity of EMPD and its clinical appearance, patients almost invariably experience delays in diagnosis, which can range from the order of months to years. It is almost always (88%) treated by radical surgery by scraping the skin away, combined with skin grafts. He arrived with us after his diagnosis and had 100 hours in the EE room followed by a 3 month break followed by a further 300 hours. In the meanwhile, he started treatment using Aldara cream as well, combined with several other holistic treatments. His latest scan confirms that he is now all clear of the cancer and this must be one of the first ever cases in the UK of someone healing themselves of this cancer without surgery.
