#mallroadmurree #walking world murreevlog Murree History: Murree is one of the most famous hill stations of Pakistan, located in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas at about 7,000 feet above sea level. Early History: The area around Murree was originally covered with thick forests and was home to local tribes such as the Dhund (Abbasi) and Kethwal. British Period (1850s): Murree was founded in 1851 by the British as a summer resort and sanatorium for their officers. Because of its cool climate and beautiful scenery, it became a popular retreat from the hot plains of Punjab. Roads, bungalows, churches, and schools were built. Mall Road and the General Post Office (GPO) became the main centers of activity. It was also used as the summer headquarters of Punjab Government for some years. Post-Independence (1947–Today): After partition, Murree became a top tourist destination for people of Pakistan. New hotels, restaurants, and markets were built, but many old colonial buildings still exist. Mall Road is the central and most famous street of Murree, built during the British colonial period in the 1850s. Origin of the Name: The word “Mall” comes from the British term for a main marketplace or promenade in hill stations and cantonment towns. Colonial Era (1851–1947): The British developed Murree as a summer hill station to escape the hot weather of Punjab. Mall Road became the heart of Murree, lined with shops, cafés, bakeries, hotels, and the General Post Office (GPO). It was a social hub where British officers and their families walked in the evenings, enjoyed tea, and did shopping. After Independence (1947 onwards): Mall Road kept its importance as the main commercial and tourist center. Old colonial buildings remained, while new restaurants, hotels, and markets were added. Present Day: Today, Mall Road is the busiest and liveliest place in Murree. It is full of tourists, offering: Traditional handicrafts, shawls, and souvenirs Restaurants, coffee shops, and hotels
