Renowned writer and Emmy award winning documentarian, Georgann Eubanks visited Ashantilly on Valentine's Day to read selections from her book Rural Astrology. Known for her deep connection to the Southern landscape, Eubanks’ poems move gracefully between childhood memory and present-day observation. Visit https://ashantillycenter.org/ for more events. See more about Georgann at https://georganneubanks.net/ The Ashantilly Center, affectionately known as “Old Tabby“, was once the mainland home of Thomas Spalding — an early Georgia planter, legislator, and prominent McIntosh County landowner. The original home, built circa 1820, was tragically lost to fire in 1937. The current house was lovingly rebuilt and refined over the years by the Haynes family. Today, the Ashantilly Center stands as a non-profit educational and cultural landmark, founded by artist, printmaker, and environmentalist William G. Haynes, Jr. Through his passion for art, history, and preservation, Mr. Haynes established The Ashantilly Press and created a lasting legacy that continues to inspire. The Center now hosts a variety of cultural programs, historic events, and hands-on workshops that celebrate the arts, printing, and the heritage of coastal Georgia. The mission of Ashantilly Center, Inc. is to preserve the Ashantilly property and its legacy while promoting conservation, education, and community engagement. The Center provides opportunities for continuing education, scientific inquiry, and cultural enrichment that highlight both the natural and built environments of Georgia’s coast. Visit Us The Center is open during scheduled events. Private tours of the house and the historic press may be arranged by appointment.
