The Intrasca valley is a beautiful place, inhabited since prehistoric times due to the presence of an important stream. The village of Aurano (Italy) lies at the top of the valley, offering views of rare beauty as far as Lake Maggiore. The village is criss-crossed by narrow medieval streets, winding between stone and wooden houses built to protect the beautiful church dedicated to the apostle St Matthew. The first oratory was built in the 14th century, only to be completely rebuilt in the early 18th century. The beautiful bell tower was built a few years after the completion of the church and still retains the option of manually ringing the five bells. d' - e' - f' sharp - g' - a' The bells are in the musical scale of D Major, made in 1902 by Roberto Mazzola using the ancient major bell, cast by his father Pasquale in 1880, as a base. The place is one of the most beautiful I have ever visited; with all my friends I returned on a Sunday, because we were invited for the feast dedicated to Saint Anthony. After ringing the bells with the traditional mechanical wooden keyboard, the bells were rung in motion using the ancient technique called concerto, which had not been performed in this country for almost half a century. People were moved, some even cried as they remembered their ancestors. The churchyard is a beautiful terrace, completely adorned with numerous types of flowers planted here over the years. The first mention of the church dates back to 1585, although it had existed for more than two centuries. At the beginning of the 18th century, the baptismal font was granted, triggering the reconstruction of the entire church, until it was finally separated from the central church of Verbania in the mid-19th century. The beautiful church is elegant both in its external portico and in its interior, which houses the marble high altar, on which the statue of the patron saint stands. #italy #bells #church #bell #culture #landscape #catholic #catholicchurch #keyboard #mountains #2024 #friends
