We decided to go on a local hike and see what it is like close by. You can google map it and get full directions to get there, it was about 36km from our home. Approaching the venue, we noticed a huge entrance gate, where there were guards where we paid pensioner rates or others. The payment was for Picnicking, Cycling and Hiking for the day. We were told there was also night-over bungalows to hire. Report to the reception area so they know you on which hiking trail, and stay on the marked route. We opted for the day visit and went on a hike. There are different hikes, 4,5km 10km and 17kms. You go from the entrance gate and drive to the relevant parking lot approximately 3km in. There is also a tourist trail you can drive in your vehicle which is 66km long, if you want to do this particular trail in your car, you need to know it is a one-way road. (tared), and it takes about 3hours to complete, The official main gate closes at 6pm. so we suggest you get there earlier to venture out on this one. We ventured out on the Cheetah hiking trail 4.5Km long, and it was midday when we left the base camp, we had loads of ice-cold water and snacks to nibble on at 3 resting points along the way. We did take a bit of strain with the hot sun belting down, there were a few tree shade spots and a lot of rocks in the tail path, It was a wonderful hike, we went slow, and up and down mountains, we guess we hiked about 3hrs in total, but it is possible to do the trail much quicker. We are pensioners, so we took our time, ambling along, appreciating the route and scenery, it really was a great time. breathing fresh air and getting the heart pumping It is really worth a revisit for us, maybe an earlier-in-the-day start for a cooler hike. We rate this Suikerbos Rand Nature Reserve 8 out of 10 and gladly recommend it to people who want a break, exercise and thought-provoking happiness of achievement.
