MORBIUS Ending Explained: Why is Vulture?

Morbius is Sony's new movie about a Spider-Man adjacent character, with no actual mention of Spider-Man in the movie. The movie is...not good. But, it's weighed down even more by its ridiculous post credits scene that brings Adrian Toomes form the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the Morbius / Venom-verse. The logic makes no sense, and it's seeding a team that no one wants, except for the people who stand to profit form a Marvel team up movie. So we break down the logic of the scene, the studio politics that went into it, and speculate on what the heck is going to happen next. DISCLAIMER: we do a lot of speculating about what happened behind the studio doors, but really we have no idea. This could have been Sony's plan all along. We're just guessing, and having fun. We also call Sony's Sinister Six movie "dumb," which isn't fair. It might be awesome. We also say that Marvel "made" the Tom Holland movies, which isn't 100% true. Despite the marketing and the really stupid ending, this movie is nowhere near the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Night at the museum is more a part of the MCU because at least the tablet that brings everyone to life is powered by Konshu, the Egyptian god in moon knight. And yet, Sony has worked really hard to fool fans into watching this really bad movie–and they’re trying to force feed us a sinister six movie because of [movie clip money] But I’m getting ahead of myself, let’s talk about the Spider-Man easter eggs that are in Morbius, why they are not part of the MCU, and then I’ll explain that truly baffling, condescending ending. Just in case you’re not up on this, the film rights to Spider-Man are owned by Sony pictures. So, for Spider-man to appear in the MCU, Sony had to make a deal to share the character with Marvel studios. Marvel made the Tom Holland Spider-Man films for Sony. Which is why they fit in so seamlessly with the rest of the MCU. This also allowed Sony characters like Venom, Toby Andrew, and the villains to appear in No Way Home. Very fun. Marvel in control, hooray. The MCU made the Avengers work by putting character and story first. Whereas Sony, is putting money ahead of everything else. They ruined the amazing Spider-Man 2 by cramming in too many villains to seed a Sinister Six film in the Andrew universe. And now they're doing it all over again. Here’s the ending. After Morbius’s boring origin story is over with and Matt Smith is defeated–a rift opens in the sky, like we saw in Far from home. And then, Adrian Toomes appears in Morbius’ old jail cell, and he’s just like, huh this is weird. It completely violates the rules of the movie. The film is pretty clear. And the movie ends with the Sony characters going back into their original universe. Now, maybe they’ll change this and say that Toomes was from this universe originally, and someone brought him over as a baby or something. But even Adrian acknowledges that this makes no sense, he says: “I think this has something to do with Spider-Man.” So, because Adrian does not exist in this universe and has committed no crime…they let him go. And all of this is told to us through a very hasty news anchor’s narration. Then there is a second post credits scene where Morbius has driven a car into the middle of nowhere. Toomes shows up, in his full vulture gear. So Toomes shows up and he’s like, oh geez, I don't know how I got here, maybe it has something to do with spider-man, do you want to team up? And for some reason, Morbius is like, sure. So they can form a team of villains that no one wants. Because they added all this at the last minute. A few months ago, Michael Keaton confirmed that he had just filmed some Vulture scenes. Now remember these scenes from the trailer. That was filmed a while ago, probably when Sony were hoping the movie would be in the MCU, like their Spider-Man movies. This would have fit well earlier in the movie, when Morbius is being arrested. If Vulture was in the MCU–but he's not. Here;’s what I think happened. I think they had these connections planned, then someone at Disney saw the movie. Then Disney says, “this is awful, you cannot imply in any way that this movie takes place in a universe that is our intellectual property. #Morbius #EndingExplained
