The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine, Knoxville (UTHSC COM-Knoxville) offers exceptional training in graduate medical and dental education through the fully accredited Graduate School of Medicine (GSM). UTHSC COM-Knoxville began as the "Internship Program" in 1956 with the opening of the UT Memorial Research Center and Hospital. The graduate medical and dental educational and research programs in Knoxville formally became the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine (UTGSM) with the formation of The University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) in 1991. We work closely with our clinical partner, University Health System Inc., as part of the UTMC campus, providing advanced tertiary medical care found only in an academic medical center. Today, UTHSC COM-Knoxville, through the GSM, sponsors multiple, fully accredited residencies and fellowships in medicine, dentistry, and oral & maxillofacial surgery. We host third-year medical students from University of Tennessee Health Science Center - College of Medicine in Memphis (UTHSC Memphis) on core clinical clerkships, PA students, and fourth-year medical students from UTHSC Memphis and other institutions on elective rotations.
