Sister-in-Law Dreaming was a program held on the NSW South Coast, connecting First Nations women in artistic and cultural exchange. Bringing an intergenerational women’s leadership program model developed in Ieramugadu (Roebourne) to exchange with women living on Yuin Country, Sister-in-Law Dreaming celebrated matriarchal culture and strength through storytelling. This program was guided and inspired by Big hART’s Punkaliyarra project, created on Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi Country to highlight the leadership and changemaking power of First Nations women. Punkaliyarra has been in development in the Pilbara region since 2020, running concurrently to Big hART’s Bulla Midhong project, developed on Yuin Country. During these project developments, connections between the stories of First Nations women were strong, and the idea of a program to connect these women emerged. The exchange began with a visit to Ngarluma Country by Yuin women leaders Aunty Sharon Mason and Ashweeni Mason in August 2024 and continued with five women from Ieramugadu (Roebourne) visiting Yuin Country in November 2024 and collaborating with the many women and organisations featured in this piece. This beautiful film is one of the creative outcomes of the exchange, partnering with artists Isabel Darling and Leith Alexander to preserve parts of the exchange in ways that are useful to the women involved and their greater connected communities. #CulturalExchange #FirstNations #NAIDOC2025 #Indigenouus #Film
