** NOTE ** On October 18, 2009, we were in the period of our annual Music Symposium. This was a special Sunday. We had some excellent guest-musicians visiting us from Federal Way and Philadelphia! Personally, it was also a special time for my family -- just 2 days before this, we came to know that we lost one of our beloved brothers, Christopher Witmer, to a traffic accident in Tokyo, Japan ( http://rememberingchristopherwitmer.com/ ). He left a wife and seven daughters behind. One of his daughters, Kristen, once visited Faith Pres in Tacoma and sang during the worship service in 2007 ( http://www.youtube.com/user/wmatsuda#... ). You can also listen to more recent performance of her at their church camp in Japan, singing "Magnificat" ( http://www.youtube.com/user/SuperTsha... ) just 5 months before the tragedy. In the following days, this tragic event led us to further meditation over the Good News -- the death and decay resulting from our sins, the death of our Lord on the cross to redeem us, and then, eternal life through the resurrected Christ. We are looking forward to seeing this good brother again. Eternal fellowship in God's Kingdom in Heaven is more real to us than the world we live in now -- even though we sometimes have to remind ourselves that there is always room for joy and thankfulness in tears. We are no longer sojourners since Jesus connected us to His Covenant. At the same time, we are still sojourners on our pilgrimage to our True Home. Everyday is like a sabbath day to us since the day Jesus resurrected from death as the final and complete sacrifice for us. Death was swallowed up in His victory when our chains fell off. Praise the Lord for His mercy endureth forever. Please, brothers and sisters, pray for the Witmers. **** From Morning Service on October 18, 2009. Edward C. Bairstow, 1925.
