Richmond, Delta, Surrey, and White Rock are distinct communities linked by their locations south of the Fraser River. These good neighbours have much in common, yet they also have their own unique stories to share. Incorporated as a municipality in 1879, Richmond has deep roots in the fishing and canning industry. Head to Fuggles where the approach is to think outside the box – indeed, its motto is “Keeping Beer Weird.” Delta, the southwestern tip of mainland BC, includes the communities of Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta. This diverse municipality has it all: an urban/multicultural vibe, deep historical roots, as well as agriculture, beaches and parks. It is home to one of Canada’s best breweries, Four Winds Brewing, past winner of both Brewery of the Year and Beer of the Year at the Canadian Brewing Awards. Delta is also where you will find the farm-based Barnside Brewing, which was founded by neighbouring farmers who collectively grow their own barley and hops, while using additional ingredients from other local farmers. Surrey is BC’s second largest city and its fastest growing, set to outpace Vancouver before too long. It offers something for everyone, including parks, performing arts, shopping, sports and, of course, craft beer. Check out Russell Brewing, which has been a leader of the craft beer movement in BC since 1995. White Rock, next to South Surrey is a popular, beachfront community with a burgeoning craft beer scene that was kicked off several years ago by two school teachers who opened White Rock Beach Brewing and continue to to brew delicious, approachable beers. Dog lovers should definitely check out 3 Dogs Brewing, founded by a local family who pour all of their passion into the beer. Explore all that these neighbours have to offer: history, culture, activities, and, of course, a passion for craft beer.
