160 years ago today, on April 7 1862, the Army of the Potomac digs in for a lengthy siege at Yorktown. Despite reports to the contrary, General McClellan is increasingly convinced the rebel army along the Warwick River is every bit as strong as his own. He is badly mistaken in this calculation, and even from far away in Washington DC, President Lincoln can sense McClellan's caution could derail the entire campaign. Today, Abraham Lincoln--a man with almost zero military experience--takes it upon himself to wire McClellan some prescient military advice. Let's hear from Lincoln himself.... Today's video is part of an ongoing "On to Richmond" series, where we follow the progress of George McClellan's campaign up the Virginia peninsula to the gates of Richmond, 160 years later.
