Back in the day they put out numerous delay and modulation pedals, and now we’re seeing an awesome new range of Nobels mini pedals forming in 2025. After the incredible ODR-mini (and ODR-mini 2) pedals came the $99/€99 DEL-mini, a fantastic mini, 3-mode stereo delay. Then came the CHO-mini, which did the same thing, but with chorus. Now we have the MOD-mini too! This mini modulation pedal boasts incredible features and specs considering its price and size. You get three Modulation modes here, for starters: Tremolo, Phase, and U-Vibe. Tremolo is a classic tremolo sound that goes from subtle to choppy, and everywhere in-between. Phase is a vintage phaser that can get as crazy and swirly as you want it to: think an MXR Phase 90 on steroids and you’re close! And finally, we have U-Vibe, which is Nobels’ take on the Univibe. Something like a phased flanger pedal, but different, and something like a Leslie-esque rotary speaker, but also different, U-Vibe reproduces that throbbing, pulsating sound that was good enough for Hendrix at Woodstock, so it’s good enough for us! You control the tones on the MOD-mini via Rate, Width and Mix controls (the Mix goes from full Dry to full Wet). The On/Off footswitch also doubles as a Tap Tempo switch, which you can use to set your Rate – and it also gives you much faster or slower speed settings than the Rate knob which, particularly on the Phase Mode, can take you to all sorts of interesting musical places! The MOD-mini also features stereo In and Out jacks – and I’m running it in stereo today, so get your headphones on for this video! – and mini switches on the top to move between Stereo and Mono mode, and True Bypass or Buffered Bypass mode. All in all, for $99/€99 this looks like an awful lot of modulation pedal! But, how good is it really? Can it faithfully nail those classic tremolo, phaser and univibe tones as heard on so many classic records over the years? Time to find out! In the video, I put the MOD-mini through its paces in as many different musical styles and settings as I can to see just how good and versatile it really is. I’ll also run a loop where we really get to twist the knobs and test out the extremes to which you can get the pedal to go. Today, I’m using the wonderful Earthquaker Devices Easy Listening analog amp simulator pedal as my amplifier, with drive tones coming from the Nobels ODR-mini 2. That went in stereo directly into two channels simultaneously on my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which in turn went into Logic Pro X. That’s it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Oh, and I used my Boss RC-10R to record and play the loop.
