Views of the Tuczno sugar factory railway on Wednesday 30 October 2002: 0:00 An empty train heading east. I initially thought this might be approaching Opoki, but now I'm not so sure. 0:16 A train of empty wagons and some with beet pulp, west of Mierogonowice. 1:09 A loaded beet train on the south side of Mierogonowice. 2:10 At Niszczewice a Lxd2 hauls a loaded beet train up the grade. As the train disappears I pan back round and through the vegetation can be seen the lights of a second train. The origins of the Tuczno railway date back to 1881 when Wierzchoslawice factory opened a 900mm gauge line. Tuczno factory opened its own 900mm gauge line in the early 1890s and the two lines became linked, along with that of Pakosc factory. The Pakosc factory closed in 1931 and Tuczno took over its railway. In 1941 the water supply at Wierzchoslawice failed, the factory closed and Tuczno took over its railway. In 1942 the combined system was converted to 750mm gauge, the same as the PKP lines and other sugar factory lines in the area. As I took these shots at Niszczewice I was thinking of other angles at this location in the following year, for the next day we had to start the journey home. But sadly, early in 2003 came news that Tuczno, like Kruszwica, had ceased use of its railway, so this was the last video I took of Polish sugar beet railways I believe the factory itself closed a few years ago.
