With the arrival of affordable 6 - 8 core CPUs on the market, performant Playstation 3 emulation is becoming available/viable for many more people. Since seeing Digital Foundrys MGS4 PS3 Frame-Rate Test many years ago, I always wondered how modern hardware would fare against the Sony Playstation 3, so I decided to test it for myself on my 10th Gen Intel i7 (System Specs Below) In this video, I test the performance and rendering of Metal Gear Solid 4 on the Playstation 3 vs RPCS3, an open source emulator for the PS3 system https://rpcs3.net Natively, Metal Gear Solid 4 renders at 1024x768 resolution, with a double buffered v-sync setup (The game can run at 60, 30, 20 & 15 Frames Per Second) However, on RPCS3 Emulator, I will be running the game at 2560x1440 (1440p) with this double buffer effectively disabled (Achieved by setting VBlank Frequency to 240hz) This kind of testing takes a very long time to produce, but it gives a very interesting insight into how far PS3 Emulation has come in recent years. If there are any other games you would like to see get similar treatment, Let me know!
