Behemoth — Is This the Largest Star in the Universe? ❤ If you'd like to support the channel - / @boringsciencetosleep If you placed the largest known star where our Sun sits, its surface would swallow Jupiter whole and keep going. We're talking about objects so massive they make our entire solar system look like a marble in a stadium. But here's the problem—we can't agree which one actually holds the title. Right now, there's a star out there called Stephenson 2-18, sitting nearly 19,000 light-years away in the constellation Scutum. Current measurements put its radius at roughly 2,150 times that of our Sun. That makes it the reigning champion. Except those measurements might be completely wrong. You see, measuring stars this extreme isn't like measuring your height against a wall. These are objects so distant and so large that they constantly pulse and shift, shedding mass like a dog sheds fur in summer. Their atmospheres are so diffuse that scientists can't even agree where one star ends and space begins. And the distances involved? Those numbers come with error margins that could fit entire solar systems inside them. So when you ask if Stephenson 2-18 is truly the largest star in the universe, you're really asking a much more complicated question. You're asking how we measure the unmeasurable, how we know what we think we know, and whether the answer even matters when tomorrow's telescope might rewrite everything. 🌌 Thanks for watching you Amazing People! 💤 I really hope this documentary helped you to relax or simply calm your restless mind, do let me know below...
