Originally built by a Kakatiya king in the 11th century of mud walls. Ceded to Bahmani Sultan Mohammed Shah 1 together with 13 crores of gold (huns). The reason why Golconda was the first place in the world to mine diamonds. Koh-i-noor diamond , now part of the British Crown jewels was mined in Golconda. The day we visited was the festival of Bonalu, the first Sunday of Ashada masam and it took place in Golconda Fort. The ritual is presenting decorated earthen pots filled with sweet rice porridge.
