Marked with a note stating that it would only "growl" when powered on, this computer's actual fault and behavior made me very curious. The "growl" turned out to be caused by memory sockets that had some dust inside. I'm not sure how that happened, unless someone removed all the memory, such that dust could fall into the slots. How this computer happened to stay so clean over the years is perhaps a bigger mystery. Maybe it was not reliable from the time it was put into service. Its dead CMOS and clock battery lends some support to that theory. It'll definitely need a few new capacitors, though that will happen much later, as I have lots of other things to fix. Simply reseating the memory (which I tried several times) did not produce any improvement.
