Platform engineering has become a very popular concept. The main idea behind it is to increase the productivity of developers by providing them with a platform that does certain tasks for them. That is accomplished by creating a platform that does "not-unimportant and non-differentiating" things for them. That way they can still get important things done (such as satisfying security requirements) while at the same time they can focus their time more on differentiating aspects of their work, such as writing code that addresses business requirements and not infrastructure details. Jennifer Riggins has recently published an e-book about platform engineering (available for free via @thenewstack at the link below). She has explored why companies are investing into platform engineering and what they hope to get out of it. 📖 Free e-book: Jennifer Riggins, "Platform Engineering: What You Need to Know Now", The New Stack, 2023 - https://bit.ly/3KhjcXc The two main goals for adoption are increased productivity and thus speed, as well as the goal to better scale the development efforts. When it comes to getting started, focusing on the needs of developers (what slows them down during the development process) is typically the best way to make sure that the platform generates value from the very start. 👉 Jennifer Riggins: / jkriggins 👉 Erik Wilde: / erikwilde #api #apimanagement #gettingapistowork #platformengineering #digitaltransformation #automation #apiplatform #apiprogram #devops #devsecops #productivity
