Urinary calculi In dogs, struvite stones are almost universally caused by urinary tract infection (UTI) with urease-producing bacteria; hence these stones are commonly called infection stones. Urease-producing bacteria include Staphylococcus, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, Corynebacterium, and Ureaplasma species. Infection: Bacterial infection of the bladder, causing alkaline urine, is the main cause of struvite crystal formation. Food: You already know the food you feed your dog is extremely important in keeping them healthy, but feeding the wrong kind of food can cause urolithiasis. Complications include acute renal failure secondary to obstruction, anuria, urinary tract infection with renal obstruction, and sepsis. Clinical signs of urolithiasis commonly include dullness, straining to urinate or straining of the anus, inappetance, colic or signs of abdominal pain, kicking at the abdomen and presenting with a hunched back or stiffness. Animals may dribble blood stained urine or mineral crystals may be observed at the prepuce. Treatment of sterile struvite urolithiasis focuses on reducing the urine pH to ≤6 and on reducing the urine magnesium concentration by feeding magnesium-restricted diets. Reducing urine pH and magnesium concentration is best accomplished by feeding a commercially available prescription diet formulated for this purpose. If quantity of calculi in bladder are more and size of calculi is larger then surgery is the only option Dog is completely recovered Video editing is done by Dr Ajay December 2021
