Old St. Patrick’s Church proudly hosted the 19th annual Siamsa na nGael, a night of Celtic song, dance and story. “Ceilidh – The Coming Together” explored the Scots, Irish and African roots of Appalachian music. The African, Irish and Scots Irish “came together” to create a new style of music in the Appalachian region of the United States. Stories will be told of how music has the gift to bring disparate groups of people together and its ability to rise above the walls of prejudice. The evening presents world-class Celtic entertainment and will showcase songs of the coming together today musically in bluegrass and country music. The wonderful evening features soloist Gavin Coyle; Chicago’s own Irish Diva Catherine O’Connell; renowned North American tenor soloist Rodrick Dixon; an Irish trad band featuring fiddler Liz Carroll, Jimmy Moore, Jackie Moran and John Williams; Gary Cahill and the New Consensus band; the step dancing of the world champion Trinity Irish Dancers; a 100-voice choir of Old St. Patrick’s; the After School Matters teen choir and the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. We were thrilled to have NBC 5’s own anchor Anthony Ponce as our guest narrator this year.
