#freezedried #shelfstable #pantrymeals The wait is over! Woo-Hoo! I've developed a copycat recipe for Thrive Life's delicious cheese sauce. Here's a shelf-stable powdered cheese sauce mix that you can sub 1:1 in any of my meal in a jar recipes that call for cheese sauce. It's perfect! You could cook it on its own and toss it with some macaroni for a yummy mac-n-cheese. Drizzle it over some steamed broccoli. Take a carrot stick and give it a dunk. Now you won't have to fret when you run out of your cans of powdered cheese sauce, and you won't have to buy the kind with Yellow #5 and Yellow #6 (YIKES)! I've got you covered! And BONUS, I'll also show you a recipe for a Supper Helper mix that's just like a box of Tuna Helper, only better. It uses the cheese sauce mix, and it'll bring you right back to 1984. You'll practically be sitting at your formica kitchen table with your kid sister. So Good! Copycat Cheese Sauce Mix pint jar - yields about 8 quarter-cup servings of mix (1/2 cup prepared) Into a large bowl, add: 1/4 cup instant milk 1/4 cup sour cream powder 1/4 cup heavy cream powder 1 Tbsp butter powder 4 Tbsp corn starch 6 Tbsp Judee's brand cheddar cheese powder 2 Tbsp nutritional yeast flakes, powdered 1 tsp dry mustard 1 tsp sugar 1 tsp chicken bouillon 1/4 tsp salt Mix well and store in a pint jar with an oxygen absorber or vacuum seal. Use as a substitute for Thrive Life's cheese sauce powder. To Prepare: Into a small pot, add 2 parts water to 1 part cheese sauce mix. Example: 1/2 cup water to 1/4 cup mix. Turn heat to medium. Whisk until smooth. Bring to a simmer and turn down heat to med-low. Continue to whisk for 3-4 mins, or until the cheese sauce has thickened and darkened a bit. Serve over pasta or veggies. Supper Helper Mix (Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper, etc.) 2-3 servings Into a pint jar, add: 1 3/4 cups pasta of choice (I used small dumplings) 3 Tbsp instant milk 2 Tbsp bechamel sauce powder 4 Tbsp cheese sauce mix 1 tsp chicken bouillon 1 Tbsp FD green onions 1 tsp FD parsley 1/4 tsp onion powder 1/4 tsp garlic powder 1/4 tsp paprika 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp black pepper add 1 tsp corn starch if desired add a pinch of cayenne if desired Then fill the jar with more pasta if that's what you prefer. Or FD veggies like broccoli or zucchini or FD meat if you like. Just so the jar is full. I used more pasta. Add an oxygen absorber Store a large can of meat next to your jar (10 to 12 oz. of tuna, salmon, chicken, etc.) To Prepare: Into a large skillet, add contents of jar along with 3 cups water. Stir and heat to a boil over med high heat. Reduce to med low and simmer for about 15 mins, stirring occasionally. Pasta should be tender and sauce should thicken. Add more water if necessary. Add drained and rinsed can of meat toward the end of cooking. Heat through. Taste and adjust. Add a splash of half and half if desired. Enjoy!
