Dr. Abhinav Y. Deshpande is a Vattikuti Fellow being mentored by Dr. Somashekhar S. P. at Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Bangalore. Here, he presents his Gyne Journal Club observations of a journal article on Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy in Ovarian Cancer by W. J. van Driel, et.al from the New England Journal of Medicine in 2018. Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy in Ovarian Cancer (HIPEC) was used in a randomized control trial (RCT) , as the study states. He talks about the strengths of the study and limitations he observes, including the definition of 'advanced' disease. Dr. Deshpande tells the Robotic Surgeons Council of India that the RCT may answer the initial question of the study, showing the benefits of HIPEC, but leaves other questions unanswered.
