The things that we're most commonly treating with hip arthroscopy is hip impingement and hip labral tears. When we see patients with hip and groin pain in the clinic, we've got to always do a thorough physical examination to make sure that the pain is either coming from the labral tear, or is it coming from another source around the hip. We would routinely perform X-rays, again to look and see if they have something called FAI, or femoroacetabular impingement, which basically refers to a specific shape of the ball and socket that predisposes to that pinching of the labrum. And if patients have tried rest or physical therapy, or even a cortisone shot, but they can't do what they want to do, those patients without osteoarthritis would be a candidate to arthroscopically have the bone removed so there's no more impingement and to have the labral tear repaired with small anchors in the bone.
