Key Details About Tungnath Significance: Known as the "Lord of the Peaks," it is the highest Shiva temple in the world and part of the Panch Kedar pilgrimage. Legend suggests the arms of Lord Shiva appeared here, making it a sacred site built by the Pandavas. Trek & Access: The trek starts from Chopta, a 3.5–4 km steep but well-paved path. It is generally considered beginner-friendly to moderate. Best Time to Visit: The temple is open from approximately April/May to October/November. The summer months (April–June) are best for clear weather, while September–October offers stunning views. Winter Season: During winter, the temple is closed, and the idol is moved to Makkumath, located lower down, as the region becomes covered in snow. Nearby Attractions: Chandrashila Peak: Situated just above the temple, offering 360-degree views of the Himalayas. Chopta: A scenic hamlet surrounded by rhododendron and pine forests, often called the "Mini Switzerland of India".
