From Galaxyland to Movieland Park: a legend that still lives on ! This is the POV of Movieland Park’s Hollywood Tower, but this ride is so much more than just a drop! It’s one of the rarest and most historically significant thrill rides on the planet. The Historic Intamin Freefall The Hollywood Tower is a first-generation Intamin drop tower, known by enthusiasts as the "Intamin Freefall." 1982: The Beginning. Intamin first introduced this prototype design in 1982 with two installations in the USA (Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags Magic Mountain). This L-shaped structure, where the ride vehicle is lifted vertically and then dropped along a separate track, literally launched the modern drop tower industry! 1985–2001: The Canadian Years. This specific unit first opened in 1985 under the name "The Daring Drop of Doom" at Galaxyland Amusement Park inside the massive West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada. It served as a landmark attraction in the indoor park for over 15 years before closing in 2001. From Mall to Movieland After being dismantled and stored, the historic ride found a new life and a new home: 2006: Rebirth in Italy. The ride was purchased, shipped across the Atlantic, and rebuilt at Movieland Park in Lazise, Italy. It opened in October 2006 under the name Hollywood Tower (originally Hollywood Action Tower), becoming the only operating first-generation Intamin Freefall in all of Europe. A Living Legend. Today, the Hollywood Tower continues to offer a truly unique and intense drop experience. Unlike modern drop towers that use magnetic brakes, this original version relies on a classic curved track, delivering an incredible moment of weightlessness (airtime) as the vehicle transitions from a vertical drop to a horizontal brake run. If you love theme park history, this POV is a must-watch—you're riding a piece of amusement park innovation! #HollywoodTower #Movieland #Intamin #Freefall #DropTower #ThemeParkHistory #RollerCoasters #AmusementPark #Prototype #OnlyInEurope
