🌊 Sofia Hrechko Shatters Women’s 400m Surface World Record at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu The CSU Natatorium in Chengdu witnessed history on August 11, 2025, as Ukraine’s Sofia Hrechko delivered a breathtaking performance in the Women’s 400m Surface final, setting a new World Record with a time of 3:11.88. Hrechko’s swim surpassed the previous world record of 3:12.10, set by China’s Sun Yiting in Belgrade on July 16, 2018, and also obliterated the World Games record of 3:14.22 set by Germany’s Johanna Schikora in Birmingham in 2022. From the very first 50 meters, Hrechko established her dominance, splitting 27.26 at 50m and maintaining incredible pace through the race. She touched the wall almost 2.23 seconds ahead of fellow Ukrainian Anna Yakovleva, who claimed silver in 3:12.27 — a time that itself would have beaten the former World Games record. The bronze went to Elizaveta Kupresova of Azerbaijan, finishing in 3:14.11, completing a podium of phenomenal performances.
