This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Susan Ormiston - TEDx Crescent School June 20, 2014 Susan Ormiston has reported from 25 countries, including many of the world’s hotspots; places like Syria, Afghanistan, Egypt and Libya. She recently covered Russia’s annexation of Crimea. She’s been at the frontlines of history as world leaders fell, and royal babies were born; as soldiers battled the Taliban and as protestors fought austerity cuts. She’s interviewed Presidents, Prime Ministers, Generals, and rock stars – Sting…but far more, ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances: a typhoon, a civil war, a violent election. She covered Nelson Mandela’s election and his funeral. Her career spans more than 25 years – with awards from her peers – 3 Canadian Gemini awards and a Foreign Press Award. Susan spent a decade as an investigative correspondent for CTV’s W-Five and is now a guest host on CBC’s The National, CBC Radio’s The Current, and As It Happens , as well a guest on BBC Radio and TV news programs. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
