Search for a Blue Whale - Part 2 The Journey to DEEP ATLANTIC

And so my journey to find the largest animal ever to have lived begins. We spent two years planning how we could get out to the open North Atlantic ocean. A sail boat is too slow to be able to document fast moving baleen whales, a ship or large cabin cruiser is outside of our budget, so we decided our best option was a Rib, rigid inflatable boat. A RIB is fast and manoeuverable enough to be able to find and keep up with these fast moving animals. But going 100 km offshore … that’s a bit terrifying. We couldn’t afford a new boat, so we bought a used one and bought two new engines, obviously the most crucial part of any boat. We installed two separate fuel tanks with capacity for 20 hours driving, we got multiple Satellite beacons , a satellite phone, specialist paramedic training and specialist for first aid kits to cover what the most likely accidents or eventualities might happen. And then more than anything we waited for good weather. I hope you enjoy part 2!
