Ben Nevis in Winter: Be prepared and plan ahead before you go ! My 27th climb of Ben Nevis.

It was my climb of Ben Nevis no.27. Have done the highest mountain of Scotland / Britain each month in a Year and in all weather conditions before. Please don't underestimate the mountain even if you choose the Mountain ( tourist ) Path. You are gaining a lot of height on the mountain as the start point is near Sea Level and the weather is mostly very different on the top, especially in Winter. Don't judge the conditions by the bottom level where it's sometimes just dry, warm and clear...you will experience a big change while climbing as on the top the temperature is much lower - colder, wind stronger and visibility very poor. Also the ground is covered by snow and ice and the path is not visible...darkness is coming much earlier in winter days so you have shorter daylight for it. Check the weather forecast not just for the bottom ( town, place ), but also for the summit of the mountain which is very different. Plan ahead, knowing your fitness level, endurance and stamina ability so you will be able to estimate the right start time for the climb to finish it safely in the daylight. Proper winter gear, warm, quick drying and breathable clothes, crampons, ice axe, GPS device, map and compass, torch / head torch and enough drink and food. Stay safe in the Mountains and enjoy !
