Moto Vecchio presents a trio of Moto Guzzi Motorcycles. The 1967 V7 700 Corsa Record is an ongoing custom build project, inspired by the 1969 Moto Guzzi 750 Ambassador-based World Record bikes. In 1969, Moto Guzzi requested Chief Engineer Lino Tonti to modify a pair of regular production 750cc Ambassador motorcycles to demonstrate the performance ability of the company's new V-Twin platform. With one machine displacing 742 cc and the other displacing 757 cc, the stripped-down & modified motorcycles set numerous closed circuit world speed and endurance records in both 750cc and 1000cc classes by the end October 1969. The bikes were immediately retired. One World Record bike, believed to be the 742 cc bike, with full fairing remains on display at the Moto Guzzi Factory Museum. The other was sold to a private buyer. It is understood to have been dismantled and no longer exists. Lessons learned from the World Record effort provided the basis for the all-new V7 Sport introduced in 1971. This 1967 V700 Corsa Record is an owner-built street legal tribute to those two World Record bikes and the true origin of the contemporary Moto Guzzi V-Twin performance motorcycle program. The 1973 V7 Sport is an unrestored veteran of the Clemson Cafe Racer scene in South Carolina, as modified by various owners/members of the Clemson Cafe Racers in the 1970's. Along with a new green frame Ducati 750SS, it was purchased new by the same buyer in nearby Spartanburg, SC from Bill Eplee's multi-brand motorcycle dealership. A frame repaint in argent and addition of original used Silentium Shark Gill mufflers to replace missing mufflers are the only changes since acquisition by the current owner in 1992. Engine has been fully rebuilt. No cosmetic restoration is planned. This video shows a no-choke completely cold start after being parked without starting for several months. The 1981 LeMans CX100 is a model specifically produced for the USA market. The CX100 is the last of the Moto Guzzi so-called "Round Head" or "Round Barrel" sport/performance bikes and thus represents the end of an era. It combines a LeMans II chassis and bodywork with a larger displacement 949cc SP1000 engine and transmission in an effort to both meet contemporary EPA emissions regulations and satisfy "there's no replacement for displacement" American buyers. As delivered, engine performance was not as noteworthy as the original 850cc LeMans I and II versions. Over the years, many CX100 owners found the detuned but larger displacement engine to be more tractable for normal daily riding while others modified their bikes to enhance performance. This motorcycle falls into the latter category, being modified during a major engine overhaul in the very late 1990's, including new Gilardoni cylinders & pistons, performance camshaft, alloy timing gear conversion, lightened flywheel, a full Bub exhaust system and more. It was parked soon after being rebuilt, drained for storage and not used or ridden for over 20 years. The current owner acquired the bike in April 2022. This video shows a choke-on completely cold start after being parked without starting for 3 days. The video opens with a modified 1966 Bolens Model 650 Tractor, equipped with a 1973 Moto Guzzi 850 Eldorado engine with Dellorto SS1-29 carburetors and an early 4 speed transmission.
