I cannot even begin to describe how grateful I am to all of you. This month has been difficult for many reasons and I am planning deliberate self-care for myself for the upcoming anniversary of my mom's death. I miss her, not a day goes by that I don't miss her, not a moment that I am not thinking of her. With the turn of the seasons I am remembering many of the last times that I spent with her. Last year, she had saved pumpkin seeds from a large pumpkin that her class had painted for her, she'd planned to grow them to paint in the following years and to pass out the seeds to students so that everyone could have a piece of it. Today, those seeds are in a bin in my car, waiting to find a home. I recently, at long last, received a bill from my prior lawyer (probate remains unsettled) and it was unfortunately much more than I had hoped. The total (after multiple $2,000 payments which I made before the launch of this GoFundMe) is presently $12,387.40 I have been fairly quiet this month, but I wanted to send out this notice to explain a raise in my goal amount. I could not have imagined just how costly dying without a will could be (please ensure that you prepare your affairs for your loved ones no matter your age) even with no one to contest. Nevertheless, there is currently legal debate as to whether a law called "the slayer statute" applies or not, this month I learned it may not because my brother was, fairly, found not guilty by reason of insanity. I do wish the system allowed room to recognized his mental illness and care for his needs without also doing harm to those left behind.
