Well Peeps! Ella, yet another case of a fearful tyrant, is now back home with her new family, with a complete attitude adjustment! Ella came to us an anxious, insecure, entitled, QUEEN — with some very strong opinions about strange people and other dogs. Her behavior was starting to become a major concern and embarrassment! Her brother, Arlo, came to us for similar reasons last year, so with the new addition causing a bit of havoc back home, Ella’s parents simply wanted their new girl on the same page. Time and again, we’ve seen the unhealthy mix of too much liberty, unearned privilege, insecurity, and a lack of accountability, lead to fallout. It is our responsibility as pet owners to get to know WHO our dog truly is at their core, and to then find a customizable balance between the level of structure & rules required for well being. When we integrate the key ingredients to creating safety and harmony into our daily living with our dogs — structure, rules, boundaries, & accountability — we open up the opportunity for so much more freedom and inclusion. Once Ella learned that growling, barking, and lunging, warranted correction, and we started teaching her a new way of deferring human guidance, all of that nonsense finally stopped!
